Pakistan Stands 153rd in E-Government Development Index
Lahore: Pakistan was placed 153rd out of 193 nations in the 2020 UN E-Government Development Index (EGDI) report, a drop from the 2018 report [148th] rating.

Previously, the UN EGDI just tracked e-government development, but it now ranks member states against three distinct metrics, including the Online Services Index (OSI), the Human Capital Index (HCI), and the Telecommunication Infrastructure Index (TII) (TII).
The report available to the concerned officials revealed that a fragmented approach, lack of enabling telecommunication infrastructure and low affordability, digital skills gap, cyber security, data privacy and lack of trust, service design maturity, and limited citizen participation are factors hindering Pakistan’s digital government development.

It also recommends establishing a digital service standard to maintain consistency and quality across services, transforming organizational structure and mindset, developing a forward-looking national citizen participation and engagement strategy and plan, developing and launching effective, user-friendly online participatory platforms, and developing a mechanism for measuring the level of citizen participation and its impact.
