Pakistan to Face Frequent Heatwaves Before June
The public has been forewarned by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) about above-average temperatures and the potential for numerous heatwaves from March to May.
The long-lasting La-Nina wave has now transitioned to a neutral condition, as reported by the PMD, and will stay this way for the duration of the season.
The agency predicts near-normal precipitation for the majority of the nation, with a little bit less in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and most of Gilgit Baltistan (GB).
Despite this, heatwave occurrences are probable, and seasonal average temperatures are likely to remain above average.
Due to the anticipated warmer temperatures, Rabi crops are projected to mature more quickly, and irrigation needs for Kharif crop output are anticipated to increase.
The pollen season may start sooner in Islamabad and Lahore as a result of the rising temperature and the dry weather.
Similarly, the atmospheric conditions point to the possibility of heatwaves forming over the season, particularly across the nation’s plains.
The PMD’s warning emphasizes the potential for water stress for household and agricultural needs throughout the upcoming season. Weather expert Jawad Memon predicted abnormally hot summer months in Karachi this year based on the above-average temperatures in February.
Pakistan has experienced significant temperature increases in recent years as a result of global warming, which has led to longer and more intense summers and heavy rains. Just one year ago, the nation was wracked by terrible floods brought on by monsoon rains that set records.
