Pakistan is set to host two back-to-back ITF W15 Women’s Tennis Tournaments in Islamabad starting October 5, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen women’s tennis and provide greater international exposure to local players.
The tournaments, each carrying a prize purse of $15,000, will mark the first time Pakistan hosts two consecutive ITF Women’s Futures events. The initiative is aimed at creating more competitive opportunities for female athletes on home soil while supporting the growth of women’s tennis across the country.
Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi said the federation has already worked to expand opportunities for male players through ITF Men’s Futures tournaments and is now focusing on providing similar pathways for female players. He noted that competing at home will allow Pakistani players to earn valuable international ranking points while avoiding the costs and challenges associated with overseas travel.
The tournaments are also expected to serve as an important preparation platform for Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup.
Several leading Pakistani players are likely to benefit from the events, including Ushna Suhail, Mahin Aftab, Soha Ali, Romaisa Malik, Bismal Zia, Meheq Khokhar, Zunaisha Noor, Zainab Ali Raja, Fatima Ali Raja, and Laibah Durab, alongside other emerging talents.
The Pakistan Women’s Tennis Association (PWTA), established in 2024, is supporting the initiative as part of its broader mission to promote and develop women’s tennis nationwide.
PWTA President Asma Khawar Khawaja said the tournaments would help strengthen Pakistan’s presence on the international tennis stage while creating new opportunities for the next generation of female players.
PTF Secretary General Col. Zia-ud-Din Tufail described the hosting of two consecutive international tournaments as a significant milestone, adding that local players would gain invaluable experience by competing against international opponents on home courts.
