Pakistan’s Electricity Demand Rises Up to 20%
This year, according to Federal Minister for Energy Muhammad Hammad Azhar of Islamabad, the demand for power has increased by up to 20%, with industrial demand being at 12-13%.

During a meeting with US Embassy Chargé d’affaires Lesslie Viguerie, Azhar stated that the rise in demand was not just a good sign for the economy as a whole, but also for the energy industry, as it bolstered investor confidence.
The federal minister also discussed Pakistan’s around $800 million investment in the growth and enhancement of transmission and distribution system over the past two and a half years, which resulted in the record transmission of over 4,000 megawatts this year.
Azhar asked American firms to investigate potential opportunities in Pakistan’s energy market.

In elucidating the close relationship between the Power Division and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the minister noted that the Indicative Generation Capacity Expansion Plan (IGCEP), which was designed to address issues related to planning and demand assessment, represented yet another milestone in long-term energy planning.
