Peshawar UET Develops Low-Cost Solar Panels
Peshawar: Using third generation solar photovoltaic technology and assistance from international partners, the Centre for Advanced Studies and Energy of the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, has created solar panels that are half the cost of the current silicon ones.

According to Dr. Najeebullah, the project’s chief investigator at the UET, the lightweight, flexible panels will be formally unveiled this week.
The project also included participation from Dr. Toby Meyer of Solaronixmix in Switzerland and Prof. Han of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China.
The primary scientist said the third generation solar photovoltaic panels will cost 50 percent less than those created with the help of silicon photovoltaic technology mostly by the Chinese enterprises and sold in the country.

He said that because the materials used in the third generation solar panels were readily available locally and the production process required lower temperatures, they would be less expensive than the current models.
The government completely supports such developments, according to Kamran Bangash, assistant to the chief minister on higher education, who confirmed that the solar technology project had been given an additional year of funding.
