PHC Orders Inquiry into Hotel Construction on ‘Forest Land’
Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court ordered the Abbottabad district administration to investigate the alleged encroachment of Ayubia National Park forest land for the construction of a five-star, multi-story hotel in the Nathiagali tourist area.

A bench composed of Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Syed Arshad Ali took note of the matter while considering other environmental petitions.
It was noted that the director general of Galiyat Development Authority appeared at one of the hearings and rejected the forest land encroachment charge, therefore if the complaint was proved to be false, the DG would be punished.
The court had previously ordered the demolition of encroachments along the Swat, Kunhar, and Chitral rivers during a prior hearing.

The court noted that it will not make any environmental concessions, therefore all relevant officers should intensify their efforts to carry out its directives.
The top justice observed that the country would face a severe water shortage in the future, but nobody cared. Unfortunately, he continued, people continued to encroach on the waterways while the relevant officials remained asleep.
