PM Directs Punjab Government to Start Work on Leh Expressway Project

A survey for land acquisition has been completed, and the commissioner will soon begin work on acquiring the land, he said, adding that there was an urgent need to launch the project to provide an alternate route for travellers between the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad as well as a permanent solution to monsoon flooding in the area.
In contrast, a senior official informed the concerned officials that the Punjab government intended to initiate the Urban Regeneration Project to improve infrastructure along the proposed Leh Expressway and to include the project in the Annual Development Programme (ADP).

The PTI government, upon assuming office, announced the launch of two massive projects for Rawalpindi: the Rawalpindi Ring Road and the Leh Expressway and Flood Channel. However, the Ring Road project was halted after Prime Minister Imran Khan became aware of allegations of corruption inside the project.
