PM Launches Pakistan’s First Environment Friendly Electric Bike
Prime Minister Imran Khan introduced the country’s first locally-made electric motorcycle (e-bike) as part of the government’s electric vehicles programme in Islamabad, marking a significant step towards electrifying the country’s automobile industry.

Prime Minister Imran, speaking at the inauguration event on the lawns of the Prime Minister House, stated that the government was working on an eco-friendly road map for the nation to protect future generations from the ill consequences of climate change and global warming.
The debut of the e-bike is part of the government’s five-year Pakistan Electric Vehicles Policy 2020-25, which was authorised last year and envisioned a flourishing electric vehicle market by 2030 and 2040, with a 30% and 90% share of passenger vehicles and heavy-duty trucks, respectively.

The e-bike will be available in variants ranging from JE-Scooty to JE-Sports Bike and will be produced by the Pakistani business Jolta Electric. The e-bike is energy-efficient, can be charged overnight, has no clutch or gears, and requires no maintenance.
Dr. Amjad stated that his company would produce five models of Jolta e-bikes with speeds ranging from 10 to 60 kilometres per hour. Due to the low cost of fuel, he continued, the owner of a 100% indigenous electric bicycle may save Rs 4,000 per month.
