Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved an extension of the federal government’s austerity measures until June 30, continuing efforts to control public spending and maintain fiscal discipline.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the existing cost-saving policies will remain in force for the extended period following recommendations from the committee overseeing the government’s austerity program.

Under the revised directive, the 50 percent reduction in fuel consumption for official government vehicles will continue until June 30. The government has also maintained its decision to keep 60 percent of the official vehicle fleet off the roads as part of broader expenditure-cutting measures.

Additionally, restrictions on foreign travel by government officers and officials have been extended for the same period. The ban is aimed at reducing non-essential public spending and supporting the government’s ongoing efforts to manage fiscal resources more efficiently.

The extension reflects the government’s commitment to implementing spending controls amid continued economic challenges and budgetary constraints.
