The PTA Chairman is working to attract new companies to the auction to boost market competition. Rehman confirmed that despite current internet disruptions, partly caused by ongoing submarine cable repairs, there should be no further interruptions from system upgrades.
Currently, telecom companies are using 265 MHz of spectrum. The PTA plans to add 567 MHz for 5G and is pushing the government to offer this range at a lower cost to benefit local consumers. Rehman noted that while Saudi Arabia sold its spectrum for $90,000 per megahertz, Pakistan previously sold 4G spectrum for $29 million per megahertz. The goal is to keep the range cost low for the benefit of consumers.
