The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that internet services have returned to normal nationwide following the successful restoration of the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) international submarine cable.
According to PTA, the repair has resolved the disruption that affected internet users across Pakistan since Thursday night. With the SMW5 cable fully operational again, internet traffic has been restored to normal levels and services are functioning without interruption.
The outage was caused by a fault in the SMW5 submarine cable, which impacted a significant portion of Transworld Associates’ (TWA) international IP transit capacity. During the disruption, internet traffic was temporarily rerouted through alternative international links to minimize service interruptions while repair work was carried out.
PTA worked closely with TWA and the SMW5 Consortium throughout the incident, continuously monitoring the situation to ensure the fastest possible restoration of connectivity.
Following the successful repair, the telecom regulator confirmed that internet services across Pakistan have stabilized, with all traffic now operating normally.
