The Punjab government has approved the construction of two underpasses worth Rs. 3.08 billion on GT Road in Gujar Khan, according to official sources.

Officials from the Punjab Highway Department said that one underpass will be constructed at Guliana Mor while the second will be built near the Technical Training College. The project is aimed at improving traffic flow in the area and reducing road accidents on the busy highway.

To make space for the construction work, the local administration has already demolished several structures, including the Police Khidmat Centre, public toilets, and multiple kiosks. Authorities also plan to remove more than 315 additional kiosks and small structures to clear the required right-of-way.

The demolition drive has raised concerns among small traders operating micro-scale businesses in the affected area, many of whom fear losing their primary source of income.

The affected vendors have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, urging the government to allocate alternative land for the reconstruction of kiosks and small shops so they can continue earning their livelihoods in a dignified manner.
