Punjab’s educational boards have approved a major policy change by increasing the number of examination attempts available to students who fail, raising the limit from four chances to six.

Under the revised rules, students will now be allowed to appear in examinations up to six times within a four-year period. The new policy will be implemented from the 2024 annual examinations onward.

The decision applies to all educational boards across Punjab and covers multiple academic levels, including Matriculation, Intermediate, as well as O Level and A Level equivalent programs.

According to officials, students using these additional attempts will be required to take exams under the currently applicable syllabus. The same rule will also apply to candidates who wish to appear in additional subjects after already passing their main examinations.

Authorities said the move aims to provide greater academic flexibility and more opportunities for students who need extra chances to complete their studies successfully.
