The Punjab government has discussed the possibility of World Bank support for its flagship housing initiative, Apni Chhat Apna Ghar, as officials consider ways to strengthen and expand the programme’s implementation across the province.
The development was shared during a meeting chaired by Provincial Housing Minister Bilal Yasin, where the Director General of PHATA and the Project Director briefed participants on the ongoing progress of the Punjab Affordable Housing Programme.
Officials stated that the World Bank has shown interest in supporting the initiative, with early discussions indicating potential funding of around USD 100 million. The proposed assistance is expected to accelerate housing construction and enhance the government’s capacity to meet its housing targets.
During the meeting, Minister Bilal Yasin said that interest-free loans of Rs. 1.5 million per family are being provided to eligible households in various districts to support home construction.
He added that the programme is yielding positive results for low-income families by improving access to affordable housing and promoting better living standards.
The minister further stated that the government aims to construct 100,000 houses annually under this initiative, which he said would significantly improve housing availability and ensure dignified shelter for underprivileged segments of society.
The meeting also approved restructuring measures to streamline implementation of the programme and discussed proposals to expand its reach to a larger number of deserving families across Punjab.
