Punjab has completed 1,129 road projects within 75 days under the “Sohne Pind, Sohnian Rahwan” initiative, with provincial officials describing the achievement as a new national milestone in road infrastructure development.

The progress was reviewed during a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where officials presented updates on the Communication and Works Department’s ongoing projects, development spending, and infrastructure plans.

According to the briefing, the newly completed roads cover a total length of 1,795 kilometers and were constructed at a cost of Rs. 30 billion. Officials also informed the meeting that nearly 32,000 roads have been completed across Punjab during the current chief minister’s tenure.

The government further reported that around 6,000 kilometers of roads were developed across the province between April and July this year.

Under the Local Roads Program, work is underway on 1,567 development schemes spanning approximately 3,400 kilometers, with a total allocation of Rs. 79 billion. Of these, 1,129 projects have already been completed.

Officials said the Communication and Works Department achieved a 99 percent utilization rate of its development budget while saving approximately Rs. 11 billion on road rehabilitation projects. They credited the accelerated progress to field teams working around the clock in three shifts.

Among the major infrastructure projects completed are the 93.5-kilometer Multan-Vehari Dual Road, the 24-kilometer Faisalabad-Chiniot Dual Road, and the 13-kilometer Tourism Highway Dual Road. The government also confirmed that rehabilitation work on all 124 roads damaged by floods has been completed.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the construction of six modern service areas under the Punjab Ring Road Authority. The facilities are expected to generate an estimated Rs. 500 million in annual revenue. She directed officials to complete the project by December and upgrade the Ring Road to meet international standards.

The meeting also approved 42 new road development schemes for the next financial year, including Rs. 51 billion for new road construction and additional funding for local roads and other infrastructure projects.

The chief minister instructed relevant departments to submit a final completion schedule for all ongoing road projects across the province. She also directed authorities to improve lane markings on highways and accelerate beautification work at major entry and exit points throughout Punjab.
