Punjab to Introduce Air Ambulance Service
Dr. Rizwan Naseer, director-general of Rescue 1122, stated that the government of Punjab has agreed to begin an air ambulance service in the province’s high-risk districts. He stated that the province government is making every effort to enhance the rescue services.

Daily, emergency services in all districts respond to more than one thousand traffic accidents, according to the Rescue 1122 chief.
The law stipulates that a vehicle must be registered with the Punjab Emergency Services Department in order to function as an ambulance.
Despite the fact that 4,719 private and public vehicles are currently registered as ambulances in the department’s database, just a handful of them are still active. Due to this, private cars without legal authorization are utilized as ambulances in the province to fill the void.
While the owners of these quasi-ambulances allegedly charged high rates for transporting patients and bodies, they lacked official training in first aid and emergency medical care.

According to official data, Punjab’s population is approximately 110 million, however unofficial estimates place the figure closer to 120 million. Over 2,885 of the 4,719 ambulances registered in the province are owned by non-governmental organizations, while the Punjab government owns 1,698 and the federal government owns 136.
However, sources from the excise department suggest that despite the limited number of registered ambulances, a significant proportion are either inoperable or have been removed off the roads.
