Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has reaffirmed its commitment to compensate landowners whose properties have been acquired for the Rawalpindi Ring Road project. The assurance comes as affected landowners continue to seek the timely release of compensation before the project’s expected inauguration.
The commitment was made by MNA Engineer Qamarul Islam during a meeting with a delegation representing landowners affected by the 38.5-kilometre road project. The delegation expressed concerns over delays in the compensation process, stating that payment awards for several acquired properties are still pending.
According to the landowners, hundreds of kanals of land belonging to nearly 200 owners across seven longstanding settlements have been acquired for the construction of the Rawalpindi Ring Road. While land acquisition has progressed, compensation in some areas has yet to be finalized, prompting calls for immediate action.
Responding to the concerns, Engineer Qamarul Islam assured the delegation that all eligible landowners would receive compensation. He added that the matter, along with the concerns raised by affected residents, has already been brought to the attention of the Punjab government and the Commissioner of Rawalpindi for prompt resolution.
The affected landowners have also appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister and the Rawalpindi Commissioner to accelerate the compensation process so that all outstanding claims are settled before the project’s planned inauguration on August 14.
Meanwhile, PML-N leader Raja Ilyas Kayani announced that a delegation of affected landowners is expected to meet the Punjab Chief Secretary in Lahore to discuss the pending compensation and seek an early resolution.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road is one of Punjab’s major infrastructure projects, designed to improve regional connectivity and ease traffic congestion. The road has already been linked to the motorway network, while construction work on the Thalian Interchange is still underway. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly enhance transportation, reduce travel time, and support economic and real estate development across the Rawalpindi region.
