RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi divisional administration has directed the Communication and Works Department to complete two underpasses on Peshawar Road by November 2026. The projects, costing an estimated Rs8 billion combined, are approximately 60% complete.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani issued the instructions during a visit to the construction sites at Race Course Chowk and Charing Cross. Officials briefed him on progress, including completed structural work and ongoing road construction, drainage and utility relocation.

The Race Course Underpass will facilitate northbound traffic, while the Charing Cross Underpass will serve southbound vehicles. Authorities are also rehabilitating and widening the road between Bungalow No. 276 and Raffay Mall.
The commissioner directed officials to maintain construction quality, manage traffic effectively, provide alternative routes and control dust at the sites. Once completed, the underpasses are expected to improve traffic movement along Peshawar Road. However, their opening will depend on the completion of the remaining work.
