Rent Control Act for Islamabad to Address Businessmen’s Demand
According to news reports, the Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Asad Umar, would introduce the Rent Control Act for Islamabad during the upcoming joint session of Parliament. The 2001 Rent Restriction Ordinance will be amended to meet the challenges and concerns of merchants.
The minister noted at an event in Islamabad that if the legislation is approved by parliament, it will satisfy a long-standing demand of the capital city’s merchants while simultaneously protecting the rights of renters and landlords.
The traders informed the minister that traders and firms were forcibly evicted under the prior law, which had a severe impact on their enterprises. In addition, the minister of planning announced that emergency measures are being taken to address the parking situation in the city.

He also invited the businesspeople of Islamabad to a formal meeting to discuss parking issues in the city’s major commercial districts. In Blue Area and F-8, the government has previously granted two parking garages.
He also invited Shakeel Munir, the president of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), to discuss the creation of industrial zones encircling Islamabad.
