Karachi: The Sindh government has distributed 2,615 solar home system kits to eligible families across 13 districts under its “Roshan Ghar – Roshan Sindh” initiative.
The kits are being provided through the Solar Home System Project of the Sindh Energy Department, with implementation being carried out by the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO), according to an SRSO spokesperson.
The project aims to provide reliable, affordable and sustainable solar energy solutions to 275,000 households across all 30 districts of Sindh. Beneficiaries are selected through a verification and scrutiny process based on eligibility criteria established by the provincial government.
The solar home systems are being provided free of cost to eligible households.
No Charges for Solar Kit Distribution
SRSO has clarified that beneficiaries are not required to pay any fee or charge at any stage of the process.
This includes the survey, eligibility verification, distribution and installation of the solar home systems.
The clarification is intended to ensure transparency and prevent applicants from being charged for participation in the government-backed initiative.

The 2,615 solar kits distributed so far have been allocated across the following districts:
- Umerkot: 404 kits
- Tharparkar: 235 kits
- Sanghar: 146 kits
- Mirpurkhas: 210 kits
- Larkana: 54 kits
- Thatta: 142 kits
- Kashmore-Kandhkot: 99 kits
- Sukkur: 78 kits
- Sujawal: 248 kits
- Shikarpur: 131 kits
- Badin: 348 kits
- Tando Muhammad Khan: 205 kits
- Khairpur Mirs: 315 kits
Solar Access to Expand Across Sindh
The Roshan Ghar initiative is part of the Sindh government’s wider efforts to increase access to affordable and sustainable electricity, particularly for households with limited access to conventional power supplies.
With a target of 275,000 households across Sindh, the Solar Home System Project is expected to expand access to renewable energy as the beneficiary verification and distribution process continues across the province.
Eligible residents should rely on official government and SRSO channels for information about surveys, eligibility, verification and solar kit distribution, and should remain cautious of anyone requesting payment for participation in the programme.
