SC Directs Sindh to Compensate Affectees of Orangi, Gujjar Nullah
According to news sources, the Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered the provincial government to compensate the victims of the Orangi and Gujjar Nullah anti-encroachment campaign.

The Supreme Court encouraged the interested agencies to take prompt measures to remedy the situation and minimize disruption.
According to reports, the supreme court ordered the Sindh government to hasten the process of providing alternative plots to the 6,000 persons affected by the operation. The Sindh government notified the apex judicial body that it has already acquired land for the purpose and that construction of 6,500 dwellings will commence as soon as the necessary funds are secured.
Regarding the illegal distribution of plots beside storm drains, Sindh Attorney General Salman Talibuddin stated that the problem dates back forty years. In addition, the bench removed a stay on an anti-encroachment operation along city storm drains, directing officials to complete the job without delay and prior to the monsoon season.

The anti-encroachment effort along with Gujjar and Orangi Nullah began in 2020 after a devastating urban flood caused by the clogging of the streams claimed many lives and properties. According to papers provided to the court by the authorities, the Sindh government initiated the operation, and 98% of the mission has been done.
