WB-Funded Project to Improve Municipal Services Delivery
In an effort to improve the delivery of municipal services by local governments, the province government of Punjab will begin the Punjab Secondary Cities Uplift Project in the coming months in conjunction with the World Bank (WB).

Officials have learned that a finalized concept paper will shortly be presented to the relevant authorities for approval.
According to the concept paper, municipalities in Punjab must ensure that their residents have access to at least the most fundamental services.
According to the report, the initiative will support creating systems in the participating MCs for greater transparency, accountability, citizen responsiveness, and improved municipal service delivery, as well as placing the MCs on a structured route to budgetary sustainability.

It states that the expected outcomes of the project following institutional strengthening activities would be the capacity building of the MC staff, the improvement of staff efficiency by continuously meeting the conditions for accessing development and institutional strengthening grant, the retention of all resources at the MC level, and the provision of modern civic facilities according to the needs of the residents, among other things.
