Segregation Treatment and Disposal Plant to Be Functional
Sahiwal: The city’s segregated treatment and disposal facility would begin operations the following month.
At a meeting, Commissioner Nadir Chattha stated that the Rs 390 million plant’s 90% of the work has been completed. In any district of Punjab, this is the first waste facility to have been set up.
In 2017, the project received approval. The facility has the capacity to separate and discard about 200 tonnes of solid garbage each day, including organic, plastic, glass, card and paper, and metal waste.
The Local Government and Community Development Department and The Urban Unit, Punjab, are carrying out the project.

According to the commissioner, the plant will first be operated by the MC before being turned over to the private sector. The concerned officials discovered that the plant’s initial cost estimate was Rs 148.69 million, but that it ultimately cost Rs 394.43 million.
According to reports, the project site was originally supposed to be enclosed on three sides, but a boundary wall was eventually built for security purposes.
As previously stated by the commissioner, it was anticipated that the MC will transfer the STD plant to a private contractor in response to an expression of interest (EOI).
The biggest concern, however, was who would create the EOI for the pioneering facility. Therefore, the plant will first be administered by the MC with technical aid from the Urban Unit, and eventually the EOI would be established to outsource the plant.
