Sialkot-kharian Extension to RWP a Game-changer for Region
According to news reports, the extension of the Sialkot-Kharian Motorway to Rawalpindi would be a “game-changing” infrastructure project for the region, as stated by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan in Islamabad. He stated that the project will enhance the efficiency of transit and the delivery of products and services in the industrial region.
At a meeting held in Islamabad, the National Highway Authority (NHA) apprised the prime minister of the current road infrastructure project in the country. The meeting was informed that measures are being taken to ensure the cost-effective and efficient development of 27 new road projects totaling 1,753 kilometers in length.
In addition, the meeting was informed that the Kharian-Sialkot Motorway project is being constructed at a cost of PKR 70 million per kilometer, as opposed to the previously predicted PKR 370 million.

In August 2021, the government approved the 69-kilometer Sialkot-Kharian Motorway project. The PKR 27.8 billion projects is planned to be completed within 24 months using the Public-Private Partnership (3P) funding model.
