Islamabad: Minister of State for Interior Muhammad Talal Chaudhry informed the Senate on Wednesday that the Rs. 10 billion Park Road infrastructure project is progressing according to schedule, with the first phase expected to be completed in July.
Responding to a calling attention notice regarding the Park Road underpass project, the minister said construction work commenced in March and has not encountered any delays so far.
First Phase Nearing Completion
Talal Chaudhry stated that the underpass, which constitutes the first phase of the project, is expected to be completed in July. The remaining components of the development are scheduled to be finalized by August.
The project includes the construction of an underpass, overhead infrastructure, service roads, and other road improvements aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity across the capital.
Collaboration With DHA and FWO
The minister said the project is being executed in collaboration with the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), both of which are also involved in financing the initiative.
According to him, the completed project will significantly improve connectivity between Park Road, Margalla Avenue, and adjacent areas, benefiting residents of both established and newly developed sectors of Islamabad.
Relief for Commuters and Environmental Safeguards
Talal Chaudhry acknowledged the temporary inconvenience faced by commuters due to ongoing construction activities but emphasized that the project would ultimately reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel times, and help lower fuel consumption.
He further noted that environmental impact assessments had been conducted before the commencement of work and that measures are being implemented to minimize any adverse effects on green areas.
The minister described the Park Road project as one of the major infrastructure developments currently underway in Islamabad, aimed at supporting the city’s growing transportation needs and improving urban mobility.
