SeniSenior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired a key meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority board, where major decisions were made to improve and modernize public transport infrastructure across Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.
One of the major approvals included the development of a modern heavy vehicle terminal on Karachi’s Northern Bypass for trucks, trailers, and other large transport vehicles. The project also includes the construction of a dedicated heavy traffic corridor connecting Karachi Port to the Northern Bypass, aimed at separating commercial transport from regular city traffic.
Sharjeel Memon stated that the initiative is expected to ease traffic congestion in Karachi while significantly improving the city’s transportation network.
The board also approved the procurement of 500 electric buses under a public-private partnership model to strengthen eco-friendly public transport in Sindh.
According to the approved plan, 450 electric buses will operate on 25 routes across Karachi, while 50 buses will serve five routes in Hyderabad.
In addition, the meeting approved the establishment of five modern EV depots across Sindh to support the expanding electric bus network, including four depots in Karachi and one in Hyderabad.
