Sindh Govt to Spend over Rs 1bn to Address Environmental Issues
Karachi: The Sindh government has set an ambitious goal for 2021-22 to address the growing challenge of environmental issues, allocating more than a billion rupees — the highest-ever budget for the area in the province’s history — with a focus on sewage treatment plants in major cities and urban foresting to cover 2,000 acres in and around cities and towns.

The budget issued by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in the Sindh Assembly last month finally took shape to be implemented with the initiation of various new financial goals whose completion within a year appeared to be an uphill battle for the authorities.
After education, health, agriculture, infrastructure development, local government, and irrigation, the environment appears to be the Sindh government’s seventh highest priority in the budget for 2021-22.
In addition to focusing on the environment, the advisor to the CM stated that the Sindh government had allocated half of its budget for coastline development. In his budget speech, the chief minister of Sindh announced the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Programme (TBTTP/GPP), which would be funded 50 percent by the federal government and 50 percent by the province.

According to the budget paper, the Sindh government’s goals for this year included regeneration and forest development on 25,000 acres of Riverine Forests, as well as the creation of 6,500 acres of irrigated plantations.
