Transfer of Land to Tourism Department for Museum Approved
The provincial colonies department of the Board of Revenue has approved the transfer of 10 kanals of state land to the Punjab tourism department for the construction of an archaeological and ethnological museum in Multan.

The colonies secretary stated in a letter to Deputy Commissioner Ali Shahzad that the land is being transferred free of charge for the establishment of the museum and that it must be utilized for the specific purpose within three years, failing which the land will revert back to the provincial government.
During the governorship of Makhdoom Sajjad Hussain Qureshi (1985–1988), the archaeological department examined a number of sites in an effort to create a museum; however, the proposal was ultimately unsuccessful.

In 2008, during the prime ministership of Yousaf Raza Gilani, the issue of establishing a museum in the city was revisited, and it was agreed that the project would be completed within three years.
The project, however, was unable to be finished, and the building of a museum in the city became a distant dream; now, the provincial government has once again allotted funds for it this year.
