Universities Asked to Set up Helpline for Assault Victims
Islamabad: A committee formed to investigate the rape of a student at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has advised that all universities provide a helpline where victims may report harassment, abuse, sexual assault, etc.

The investigation report issued by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Education Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani also suggested the establishment of committees in institutions to investigate such instances and take appropriate action.
In addition, it was suggested that the inspector general of police in Islamabad send directives to all SHOs to encourage the reporting of such offenses (harassment, rape, etc.) with speedy prosecution.
All delegated IIUI personnel on the day in question should have been disciplined for criminal negligence and lack of duty.

It stated that the IIUI rector should be instructed to reform the entire administrative management structure, and that the employees should be fully trained and sensitized to perform their duties according to high standards of professionalism.
Earlier, committee members expressed worry over the refusal of admission in various schools and colleges in Islamabad, stating that school principals were not permitted to deny children entrance.
