WAPDA Spends RS 100 Billion on Development Projects
The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) is investing a significant sum of money in project areas—more than Rs 100 billion—for the development and prosperity of the local populace.
It was said that a total of Rs 100 billion was being spent on confidence-building measures (CBM) in the project regions of four Wapda projects that were still under construction: the Diamer Bhasha Dam, the Mohmand Dam, the Dasu Dam, and the Tarbela Fifth Extension project.

The programmes focus on healthcare, education, and infrastructure improvement to improve the quality of life for individuals who come from remote, underdeveloped regions that score very poorly on the Human Development Index.
Rs 78.5 billion has been set aside for the implementation of development plans in the project area for the socioeconomic improvement of the populace.

In the meanwhile, construction is underway on the Mohmand Dam, which would span the Swat River in Khyber-Mohmand Pakhtunkhwa’s tribal area and have a gross water storage capacity of 1.2 MAF and an 800MW power production capability.
For implementing development projects in the project area for healthcare, education, drinking water, and infrastructure development, Rs 4.57 billion has been allotted.
In order to reduce poverty in the project region, Wapda is investing Rs 17.35 billion in this distant location to complete development programmes for resettlement, social development, and environmental management.
Fifth Extension of Tarbela A hydropower project with an installed production capacity of 1,530MW is being carried out on the fifth tunnel of the Tarbela Dam in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa district of Haripur.
