WB Contributes $442 million to Improve Punjab’s Infrastructure
The World Bank has decided to pay $442,4 million to Pakistan for the development of social infrastructure in the rural regions of Punjab, according to ARY News.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and the World Bank signed a $442,4 million finance agreement for the “Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Project” in Islamabad.

Ministry of Economic Affairs Secretary Noor Ahmed signed the funding agreement on behalf of the Pakistani government, while World Bank Country Director Najy Benhassine signed on behalf of the World Bank.
This project aims to provide equitable and long-term access to safe drinking water, improve sanitation, and reduce child stunting in Punjab.
The project interventions will cover 2,000 villages, including 2,000 main settlements and 8,000 small settlements, in sixteen (16) districts of Punjab Province with the worst social infrastructure and stunting problems.

The project will have a direct impact on the lives of common people and create employment opportunities in rural areas.
Minister for Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan lauded the World Bank’s efforts, noting that this is a landmark project that exemplifies the Pakistani prime minister’s goal of investing in human capital and improving the living standards of the populace.
