WCLA, Aga Khan Trust Enter into Consensus for Fort Restoration
Lahore: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) and Aga Khan Culture Service Pakistan (AKCSP) have signed a collaboration agreement for the implementation of the project “Heritage and Urban Regeneration: Tourism Development in Lahore Fort and its Buffer Zones.”

A five-year agreement has been inked to rebuild the Lahore Fort’s surrounds and turn them into a tourism hotspot.
The Mariam Zamani Mosque, which is obscured by the encroachments, will also be visible to tourists. This project will connect the Mariam Zamani Mosque and the Lahore Fort. This project will also build a museum in the basement (summer palace) of the Lahore Fort.
The project’s activities are sponsored by the Punjab government, which is the beneficiary of funds from an agreement between the French Development Agency (AFD) and the federal government.

According to the director general of the WCLA, the deal would cover a new phase in the restoration of the Lahore Fort.
AKCSP’s chief executive officer, Tauseef Ahmad Khwaja, stated that WCLA and AKCSP want to codify the framework of their collaboration to implement the project through this agreement.
