Work on CASA-1000 Begins to Transfer Electricity From Tajikistan
Under the auspices of the CASA-1000 project, which aims to transmit 1,300 MW of hydropower from Tajikistan to Pakistan, construction has started on the HVDC converter station in Nowshera.

In order to supply 1300 MW of power from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Pakistan from Afghanistan, National Transmission and Dispatch Company Limited has reportedly begun construction work on an HVDC converter station for a CASA-1000 power project in the Azakhel Bala Nowshera area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Under the project, building of a 1270 km long transmission line to Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan is currently underway, which will be completed by 2023, while construction of converter station will be completed by 2024.

According to the converter station’s website, a 1270 km transmission line is also being built in this regard, while in Pakistan, NTDC is building a 113 km HVDC transmission line from the Torkham border to the Nowshera converter station. The four walls have been built and are complete.
The transmission line will be completed by 2023, the official said, adding that the HVDC converter station project would be completed by 2024, according to the agreement’s completion period.
At the start of the project’s development, Dr. Khawaja Rifat Hassan, Managing Director, NTDC Engineer, estimated that the transmission line’s overall cost would be US $20,205 million, running from Converter Station and the Torkham Border to Nowshera. applauded the efforts of the crew.
