Bids Called for Delayed Margalla Road Project
Islamabad: After years of inaction, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued a request for proposals to build more than 10 km of the Margalla Road.
The CDA issued a request for proposals a few days ago for the balance of Package-I for the Khayaban-i-Margalla from G.T. Road to D-12.
The Civic Agency awarded a Rs 588 million contract in 2012 to build an 8.5 km section of road, but the project was never finished because the contractor left the site after the earthworks were finished and filed a lawsuit against the CDA.
Recently, an out-of-court agreement was reached between the CDA and the contractor, clearing the way for the tendering procedure.

The second end of the road will be built from the intersection of Khayaban-i-Iqbal and Constitution Avenue, and it will cross from the Bari Imam Quaid-i-Azam University Area to reach Bhara Kahu, according to the officials.
The CDA is also considering making the proposed road a bypass before connecting it to the Murree Expressway in order to avoid adding to the already crowded Murree Road’s traffic.
