KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) and Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) have signed an agreement to develop a dedicated water pipeline from Dumlottee in Gadap Town to DHA and Clifton.
The Rs. 14 billion project is expected to provide an additional 10 million gallons of water per day to the two major residential and commercial areas. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said construction is expected to begin within a week and the project is targeted for completion in 12 months.
Pipeline and Water Infrastructure
The project includes construction of a dedicated pipeline along with a pumping station, forebay and filtration plant. The system is intended to improve water availability in DHA and Clifton, which have faced recurring shortages.
The scheme has been under consideration for several years, with provincial approval initially granted in 2023 and further approvals and financing arrangements completed in subsequent stages.
Expected Benefit for DHA and Clifton
The additional water supply could improve service reliability for residents, businesses and property developments across DHA and Clifton.
However, the project has experienced delays between its initial approval and the signing of the implementation agreement. Its actual impact will therefore depend on construction progress and completion within the announced 12-month timeline.
For property owners and developers in the two areas, the successful delivery of the pipeline could strengthen basic infrastructure and improve the long-term usability of residential and commercial properties.
