ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has proposed a 2.83-kilometre zip line project in the Margalla Hills. The planned route would run through a valley between Daman-e-Koh and the former Monal restaurant site.
The proposed zip line is part of a wider tourism and recreational centre. The CDA aims to develop new attractions for visitors in the area. If completed, the zip line would be one of the larger installations of its kind in Pakistan.
The project would connect two well-known locations in the Margalla Hills. Daman-e-Koh is a popular viewpoint in Islamabad. The former Monal site is also located in the same hill area.
The CDA has considered an aerial tourism project in this area before. The authority previously planned a chairlift for the Margalla Hills. That project did not reach completion.
The latest proposal represents another attempt to introduce an aerial attraction in the area. However, the zip line remains a proposal at this stage. Its construction will depend on the required approvals and further planning.
The zip line is also being considered as part of a larger recreational centre. The wider plan could support tourism and visitor activities in the surrounding area. Further details about the full recreational centre have not been disclosed.
The location also requires careful planning because the Margalla Hills form part of a protected area. Any development must follow the applicable environmental and land-use requirements. The CDA has previously taken action against unauthorised construction and encroachments in the hills.
