Centuries-old Tree Uprooted in Haripur Village to Construct Road
The uprooting of a 400-year-old banyan tree for road development has grieved the villagers of Mughalabad.

They informed this scribe that the British government used to provide its owner with a monthly pension of Rs5. They said that he received the money until his last breath.
According to the inhabitants of the village of Mughalabad Mohra Muhamdu, their ancestors planted the banyan tree some 400 years ago, and its trunk and branches have provided shade to the villagers for decades as they toiled in their agricultural fields.
He stated that it was the only tree that provided the inhabitants with long-lasting shade. He stated that he was one of the fortunate villagers whose roofs were covered by the tree’s shadow, giving them the sensation of being in an air-conditioned apartment.

He stated that his father told him that on a hot summer day in 1886, a British deputy commissioner of Abbottabad, whose name he could not recall, was on an official visit to Mankraey and Sera-i-Nahmat Khan villages when he stopped near Mughalabad village and spent half an hour under the tree’s shade.
