Coastline Revamp Project Approved for Karachi
According to news sources, the federal government has unveiled a USD 3.5 billion proposal to reconstruct Karachi’s coastline as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) on CPEC announced the decision in Islamabad and Beijing.

According to Syed Ali Zaidi, Minister of Maritime Affairs, the project will be built totally with direct Chinese investment, without the need for a loan. The idea intends to revamp the city by adding extra berths to the port, a new fishing port, and a “majestic harbour bridge” connecting the city to the Manora islands and Sandpit beach.
According to Zaidi, the Karachi Coastal Comprehensive Development Zone (KCCDZ) will encompass 640 hectares or 1,581 acres on the western backwater marshes of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT).
In addition, the government plans to create affordable homes for 20,000 people residing in surrounding fishing colonies and slums.

In addition, the project will include a state-of-the-art fishing port with an export and processing zone for fisheries. Prime Minister Imran Khan has reportedly praised the development and predicted that the inclusion of Karachi’s coastal development plan in CPEC will place the city on par with developed global port cities.
