ECC Approves Hajj Policy for 2023

On Monday, the Cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) adopted the Hajj 2023 Policy and decided to offer $90 million in foreign exchange insurance.

Senator Ishaq Dar, the federal minister of finance and revenue, presided over the meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee.

A synopsis of the Hajj Policy 2023 was provided by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony. Following debate, the meeting accepted the proposal and decided to offer $90 million in foreign exchange insurance.

According to the strategy, Pakistan has been given a 179,210 Hajj quota for the year 2023, which would be split equally between government and commercial Hajj programmes. Each will have a 50% quota set out for the sponsoring programme.

The private Hajj plan is predicted to produce over $250 million, bringing the total to over $440 million. The sponsorship programme for the official Hajj quota is anticipated to yield $194 million. The burden of foreign exchange should be lessened, according to the administration.

The preliminary Hajj Package for the Northern and Southern regions for the year 2023 is Rs. 1,175,000 and Rs. 1,165,000, respectively.

Also, the ECC granted technical supplementary grants (TSG) of Rs. 12 billion for the Planning Commission to conduct the 7th Population and Housing Census and Rs. 3.2 billion for Poverty Alleviation & Social Safety to conduct the National Poverty Graduation Program (NPGP).

The Ministry of National Food Security & Research’s summary of the urea fertiliser requirements for the current year was postponed by the ECC with the instruction to take into account the recommendations of the committee the ECC formed on the gas distribution plan, which is led by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

The Ministry of Industry and Production’s Solar Panel and Associated Equipment Manufacturing Policy 2023 was also postponed by the ECC, with instructions to study and update the draught policy in light of feedback from all stakeholders.

Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, federal ministers for power Khurram Dastgir, industries and production Syed Murtaza Mahmud, commerce Syed Naveed Qamar, religious affairs & interfaith harmony Mufti Abdul Shakoor, minister of state for petroleum Musadik Malik, federal secretaries, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
