FM Asks Defaulters to Pay Taxes in Time
Islamabad: The Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue, Shaukat Tarin, urged non-tax filers to pay their taxes before the government approached them and urged tax evaders to register before the government or the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) questioned them, according to multiple news sources.

“We will assist taxpayers, but everyone must pay taxes,” Tarin said, adding that the revenue board will randomly contact individuals in the coming weeks.
At an event in Islamabad, the finance minister specified that taxpayers would not be harassed under any circumstances. He maintained that only taxes permits long-term growth.
The finance minister argued that streamlining the tax system improves tax collection and added that a nation cannot advance if its citizens do not pay taxes.
“Only two million people pay taxes in Pakistan,” the minister said, adding that the government and FBR plan to use technology to reach out to individuals and that legal action will be taken against those who do not pay taxes.

He claimed that people paid very little in taxes despite living in shacks, driving nice automobiles, and dining at costly restaurants.
Tarin highlighted that the federal government has authority over the application of sales tax on items and that the FBR chairman has made life easy for taxpayers by asking the authority to impose sales tax on retail prices of goods from the Senate Standing Committee on Finance.
