Govt, NGOS and Private Firms Sign Up for Forest Land Protection
Islamabad: According to news reports, the Ministry of Climate Change inked an MoU with NGOs and the corporate sector to rehabilitate the nation’s degraded forest area.
With the assistance of the corporate sector and non-governmental organizations, the PKR 600 million initiatives will rehabilitate 50,000 acres of forest area (NGOs). The government, the World Wide Fund for Nature – Pakistan (WWF-P), and the Engro Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the tree plantation and carbon offset.
According to Malik Amin, Special Assistant to the PM on Climate Change, the collaboration will promote sustainable development and improve climate resilience, food security, access to clean water and sanitation, and the battle against hunger, malnutrition, and disease.

Additionally, it was disclosed that cooperation between the public and commercial sectors will create jobs and lessen issues related to environmental deterioration. The deal was reached before the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP), which came to an end on November 11 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Pakistan also promised to make improvements to its environmental protection laws that will lessen the negative effects of climate-related issues there as well.
