The federal government has proposed an allocation of Rs30 billion for the construction of the 305-kilometre Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2026–27, according to official documents.

The proposed funding includes Rs28 billion under rupee cover and Rs2 billion from local resources.

The project, titled “Construction of Hyderabad–Sukkur (305km), 6-lane divided, fenced motorway on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis – 2nd revised,” was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on July 7, 2025.

Its approved total cost stands at Rs363.7 billion, while estimated expenditure up to June 30, 2026, is projected at Rs15.004 billion. The remaining throw-forward liability is around Rs348.696 billion, reflecting the large funding still required for completion.

The Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway is considered a key missing link in Pakistan’s north–south motorway network. Once completed, it will connect Hyderabad and Sukkur via a modern six-lane, access-controlled highway, improving trade connectivity, facilitating movement between ports and industrial hubs, reducing travel time, and enhancing road safety.

The proposed allocation is subject to final approval as part of the federal development budget for 2026–27, which is expected to be presented in Parliament this week.
