The federal government has launched a major initiative to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure across the public sector by deploying high-performance computing resources and advanced AI platforms in government-managed data centers.
As part of the initiative, the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) has signed a three-year agreement with Data Vault Pakistan to provide High-Performance Graphics Processing Unit as a Service (GPUaaS) and Model as a Service (MaaS) to government institutions.
AI Infrastructure to Be Hosted in Pakistan
The project aims to accelerate AI adoption across government departments while ensuring sensitive public-sector data remains hosted within Pakistan under local jurisdiction.
Under the agreement, NTC will install enterprise-grade NVIDIA GPU hardware, including the H200, A100, and B200 series, at its secure government-operated data centers.
Support for Large Language Models
The new infrastructure will support AI training and inference workloads while hosting several large language models (LLMs), including Llama 3.1, GPT OSS 20B, Qwen3 32B, Kimi K2, as well as text-to-speech services within NTC’s managed environment.
Focus on Digital Sovereignty
NTC Managing Director Maj Gen (R) Ali Farhan said the initiative is designed to reduce reliance on public cloud services by providing secure, locally hosted AI computing resources for government institutions.
He added that building AI infrastructure inside Pakistan is essential for protecting the country’s digital sovereignty and supporting future AI-powered government services.
Data Vault Pakistan to Lead Implementation
Data Vault Pakistan will implement the project, provide operational support, deploy enterprise AI infrastructure, and ensure 99.9 percent service availability.
The company said the initiative will strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, promote AI adoption across the public sector, and improve the delivery of digital government services.
