Modern Traffic Management System on Islamabad Expressway
Sunday, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) intended to implement a new traffic management system on the Islamabad Expressway, according to media sources.

The authorities has commenced construction of merging points on the Expressway in order to move rush-hour traffic partially to the opposite side. With the support of the Islamabad Traffic Police, the CDA has decided to redirect traffic on the two lanes of the Zero Point to Koral Chowk segment of the Islamabad Expressway from Koral Chowk to Zero Point (ITP). This suggests that during peak hours, commuters will have access to six lanes.

The CDA Machinery Pool Organization (MPO) is reportedly working on two merging points: one past the I-8 bridge, prior to Zero Point, and another near the Quaid-e-Azam portrait. It was disclosed that the CDA will build the merging points while ITP would control the traffic.

According to a CDA official, traffic will be shifted to either side of the road for one week as an experiment, taking into account the volume of traffic. A senior CDA official offered additional information, stating that adequate traffic officers would be deployed and that 2,000 cones would be provided for lane separation.
