Industries Polluting Air Told to Install Emission Control Systems
The Environment Protection Department (EPD) in Lahore has instructed the businesses that pollute the air to instal emission control devices before the smog season begins.

The meeting’s minutes state that Lahore, particularly on its northern side, is home to around 300 steel manufacturers. In addition to the 161 brick kilns and the hundreds of boilers installed in various industrial units, there are also about 32 large and 68 small steel furnaces in operation.
There are 34 active steel furnaces in the Sheikhupura district. More than 25 have installed dry scrubbers. Measures have been taken to restrict emissions in Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, and other important areas.
The group was informed that a smog action plan had been created and that the relevant departments had been tasked with controlling traffic pollution and stubble burning.

It was greatly influenced by the massive stubble burning on the Indian side and the coal-fired thermal power plants in Rajasthan. Smog in Pakistan during the early winter is typically brought on by the east-to-west wind direction.
According to sources, the summit emphasised the urgent necessity for communication to take place at the highest diplomatic level to manage extensive stubble burning on the Indian side.
