ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has set a target of opening the Kashmir Chowk Underpass to traffic within approximately 10 days, as construction work continues at the busy Islamabad junction.

During a site visit reported on October 21, 2026, Naqvi said construction had entered its 12th day, with Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials, contractors, and other teams working around the clock to complete the project.

The underpass is intended to improve traffic flow at Kashmir Chowk, an important junction for motorists travelling towards Murree. Its completion is expected to help reduce congestion and make journeys through the area smoother.

The interior minister said construction had progressed while traffic continued moving through the area without major diversions. However, commuters may continue to experience temporary inconvenience while work remains underway.

The 10-day period represents the minister’s target rather than a confirmed opening date. The final schedule will depend on the completion of construction and the arrangements required to make the underpass operational.

The project forms part of ongoing efforts to improve Islamabad’s road infrastructure and manage traffic at key intersections. Better traffic movement at Kashmir Chowk could also support commuters and businesses operating along the route towards Murree.

Motorists are advised to follow traffic police instructions and remain alert to any changes in traffic arrangements until the underpass opens. Further official announcements are expected to clarify the opening schedule and related traffic measures.
