IT Ministry ‘One Room, One Light’ Policy To Save Energy
The federal cabinet recently approved a “National Energy Conservation Plan” to try to save the nation’s electricity and petroleum resources, and it has begun implementing it in government institutes and buildings. The Information Technology (IT) ministry has also begun to implement the plan, with IT Minister Amin ul Haq announcing the regulation of the ‘one room, one light’ formula in order to conserve as much energy as possible during times of crisis.

The ministry has issued a notification regarding the policy’s implementation in the government IT sector, which includes all buildings and platforms. IT Minister Ameenul Haq stated in a statement that all departments working under the IT ministry are required to follow the orders. He stated that using too much electricity at any level is a waste of foreign reserves.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed the media on the decisions reached during a cabinet meeting in Islamabad with Khawaja Asif, who stated that the energy conservation plan would help Pakistan save 8,000 to 9,000 megawatts of electricity and Rs62 billion per year.

In addition to the ‘one room, one light’ formula, the government has used another strategy to conserve energy, which includes closing all stores earlier. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif announced that the federal cabinet had approved an energy conservation plan that would see all markets close at 8:30 p.m. and wedding halls close at 10 p.m.
During a press conference, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated:
“Across the country, all markets and shopping malls will close by 8:30 p.m., and wedding halls will close at 10:00 p.m.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently announced that all government buildings in the country, beginning with those belonging to federal government entities, will be entirely powered by solar energy by April. He claimed that if we use Solar Power in all of our government buildings, we will save 300 to 500 megawatts per month and reduce our import bill by around $27 billion per year.
