Karachi Becomes First Pakistani City to Run Electric Buses
Despite Fawad Chaudhry, the federal minister for science and technology claims ,’s that Karachi would be the first Pakistani city to have environmentally friendly electric transportation, the Pakistan Peoples Party government in Sindh took the initiative and started the nation’s first electric bus project there.

Sindh Minister for Transport Owais Qadir Shah inaugurated the project under public-private partnership. The electric bus will travel between Tower and Sohrab Goth, and a single stop would cost as little as Rs. 10. The initiative will begin with 10 bus stations. The bus operated by Sapphire Group has 37 seats.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the provincial transport minister announced that a trial run of the electric bus would go from Tower to Sohrab Goth through MA Jinnah Road and Shahra-e-Pakistan.
According to Shah, there will be 100 of these green vehicles on the road by the end of the year. He said that the government of Sindh’s own bus initiatives had also achieved progress.
He stated that his ministry fully supports the Sindh government’s “futuristic approach” and expressed the hope that the Kyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab governments will soon follow suit.
