Kashmir Solidarity Day 2023 – A Symbol of Unity & Support

To express solidarity and support for the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, the Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, has announced the observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5, 2023.

In order to engage students and give them a platform to express their opinions and ideas on the current situation in Kashmir, cultural performances, book fairs, walks, tableaus, awareness sessions, musical performances, arts competitions, and debates were held in public and private educational institutions in Islamabad on the orders of Federal Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain. Various actions and events are held on this day to bring attention to the region’s continuous conflict and human rights abuses.

Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister of Education, stated that:

On this day of solidarity we vowed that, we will stand with our Kashmiri Brothers and Sisters and fight for their freedom until they get their right of self-determination”.

In this context, the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) arranged a number of events, including a solidarity march, a youth-interactive session, and a panel debate on “Kashmir under Indian Atrocities: Challenges and Prospects” IBCC Secretary Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah demands a halt to the violence carried out by India in the area at this time.

In showing his support, he stated, “The people of Kashmir were fighting for their freedom for 75 years and they continue to endure human rights violations and injustices under Indian rule. We the people of Pakistan strongly condemn the atrocities of Indian forces on people of Indian Illegally occupied Jammu & Kashmir and we strongly support Right of Self-Determination for Kashmiri people as per UN Resolution”.

In order to show their support for the Kashmiri people and increase awareness of their fight for self-determination, institutions operating under the Federal Education Ministry held solidarity walks in cities across Pakistan as part of the celebrations.

To promote awareness via reading, the National Book Foundation conducted a books festival at National Skills University (NSU), Islamabad. Additionally, Kashmir Cultural Festivals were hosted in Islamabad at the National College of Arts (NCA) and in a number of other schools and colleges, highlighting the region’s rich cultural legacy through music, performances, and traditional foods.

Seminars and tours were offered at the main and regional campuses of the Allama Iqbal Open University. In order to show support for Kashmiris and denounce the brutality of Indian armed forces in Indian-Occupied Kashmir, Quaid-i-Azam University arranged a walk on campus. A gathering was staged by the NFC Institute of Engineering and Fertilizer Research in Faisalabad to show support.

To commemorate the day, various Islamabad Model Colleges for Boys and Girls organized various activities. Along with numerous other private schools, Roots International and Roots Millennium schools commemorated the day and raised awareness of the problem by holding walks and cultural performances.
