KMC to Allot Land to Anti-encroachment Drive’s Affectees
According to news reports, Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab stated that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) would rehabilitate those affected by the present anti-encroachment campaign. According to him, the Sindh government has already selected land in several city areas for this purpose.
The administrator noted at the ‘Competitive and Livable City of Karachi’ conference that the government is developing ways to avoid further encroachment on vacant land. He noted that the government’s top priority is the rehabilitation of the afflicted population, which is being assisted by the World Bank (WB).
Administrator Wahab further claimed that the WB will provide funds for a variety of new development projects, including road building, flyover extension and joint maintenance, and the construction of a fish house in Clifton, among others.

Notable is that the municipal government initiated an anti-encroachment campaign along the three main storm drains in the port city, resulting in significant displacement of local residents.
